SAR imaging using multidimensional continuous wavelet transform and applications to polarimetry and interferometry
نویسندگان
چکیده
Usual SAR imaging process makes the assumption that the reflectors are isotropic and white (i.e., they behave in the same way regardless the angle from which they are viewed and the emitted frequency within the bandwidth). The multidimensional continuous wavelet transform (CWT) in radar imaging was initially developed to highlight the image degradations due to these assumptions. In this article the wavelet transform method is widened to polarimetry and interferometry fields. The wavelet tool is first used for polarimetric image enhancement, then for coherence optimization in interferometry. This optimization by wavelets, compared with the polarimetric one, gives better results on the coherence level. Finally, a combination of both methods is proposed. ' 2005 Wiley Periodicals Inc. Applications of Continuous Wavelet Transform to Polarimetry and Interferometry
Usual imaging process makes the assumption that the reflectors are isotropic (i.e they behave the same way regardless of the angle from which they are viewed) and white (they have the same properties within the emitted frequency bandwidth). New imaging capacities make these assumptions obsolete and some degradation of the image quality occurs when performing the standard imaging process. Multid...
متن کاملMultidimensional Waveform Encoding for Synthetic Aperture Radar Remote Sensing
This paper introduces and analyses the innovative concept of multidimensional waveform encoding for spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The combination of this technique with digital beamforming on receive enables a new class of highly performant SAR systems employing novel and highly flexible radar imaging modes. Examples are adaptive high-resolution wide-swath SAR imaging with compact ...
متن کاملAnalysis of SAR images by multidimensional wavelet transform
The description and development are described of a multidimensional continuous wavelet transform for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image analysis, especially for the analysis of ‘dispersive’ reflectors located on a ground illuminated by a SAR. The usual imaging process makes the assumption that the reflectors are isotropic (i.e. that they behave the same way regardless of the angle from which ...
متن کاملSrtm and Beyond: Current Situation and New Developments in Spaceborne Insar
SAR interferometry (InSAR) has become one of the most powerful tools in radar remote sensing. Generation of digital elevation models, measurement of glacier flows and mapping of earthquakes, volcanoes and subsidence are the most prominent applications of InSAR. For most of these applications continuous acquisition of SAR data from space over many years, like with the ERS-1/2 or Radarsat, is ind...
متن کاملPolarimetric Interferomtry
SAR polarimetry makes use of the polarization dependent scattering response of each pixel within the imaged area. The polarimetric response is highly sensitive to the scattering mechanism of a pixel. SAR interferometry is sensitive to the location of a pixel and its scattering geometry. The location of a pixel can be measured by the phase difference between two coherent SAR images using SAR int...
